Our Bible verse this week over at OBS is: Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Romans 5:3-4

The theme this week is to #StickWithIt. Keep saying yes to God!

Take My Hand Precious Lord by Jim Reeves

When I was growing up we use to listen to Jim Reeves gospel every Friday night to bring in the Sabbath. His voice is so soothing and just brings you to a place of peace. I didn’t know it as a child listening to him that later on in life I would be taken back to some wonderful memories and still find that place of peace when I listen to him.

I know the music is considered old for these days but I hope you enjoy it.

Take My Hand Precious Lord

I’d Rather Have Jesus

Be Ruled by the Spirit and The War Within Us

Last week was a rough week. I had an awful mood that would not go away. No matter what I did or said nothing was helping. Thank the Lord last week is over. As I sit and reflect on last week I come up with nothing so to the Bible I turn. While in my Bible time this morning as I kept flipping through the pages I kept asking God, “Where do you want me to read this morning?” As I kept turning I kept getting nothing, that is until I got to Romans 8. There it was as big as day, “Be Ruled by the Spirit”. I had to chuckle because last week I kept thinking, “I really do react with my feelings more than I do with knowledge. Basically I let my heart rule me not the Spirit. Today though God showed me that I really do need to let the Spirit rule me.

Be Ruled by the Spirit

“8 So now, those who are in Christ Jesus are not judged guilty.[a] Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit that brings life made you[b] free from the law that brings sin and death. The law was without power, because the law was made weak by our sinful selves. But God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son to earth with the same human life that others use for sin. By sending his Son to be an offering for sin, God used a human life to destroy sin. He did this so that we could be the kind of people the law correctly wants us to be. Now we do not live following our sinful selves, but we live following the Spirit.

Those who live following their sinful selves think only about things that their sinful selves want. But those who live following the Spirit are thinking about the things the Spirit wants them to do. If people’s thinking is controlled by the sinful self, there is death. But if their thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace. When people’s thinking is controlled by the sinful self, they are against God, because they refuse to obey God’s law and really are not even able to obey God’s law. Those people who are ruled by their sinful selves cannot please God.

But you are not ruled by your sinful selves. You are ruled by the Spirit, if that Spirit of God really lives in you. But the person who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ. 10 Your body will always be dead because of sin. But if Christ is in you, then the Spirit gives you life, because Christ made you right with God. 11 God raised Jesus from the dead, and if God’s Spirit is living in you, he will also give life to your bodies that die. God is the One who raised Christ from the dead, and he will give life through[c] his Spirit that lives in you.

12 So, my brothers and sisters, we must not be ruled by our sinful selves or live the way our sinful selves want. 13 If you use your lives to do the wrong things your sinful selves want, you will die spiritually. But if you use the Spirit’s help to stop doing the wrong things you do with your body, you will have true life.

14 The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them. 15 The Spirit we received does not make us slaves again to fear; it makes us children of God. With that Spirit we cry out, “Father.”[d]16 And the Spirit himself joins with our spirits to say we are God’s children. 17 If we are God’s children, we will receive blessings from God together with Christ. But we must suffer as Christ suffered so that we will have glory as Christ has glory.”

After reading that I glanced over to the previous page and saw “The War Within Us.” This is another good read that spoke volumes.

The War Within Us

“14 We know that the law is spiritual, but I am not spiritual since sin rules me as if I were its slave. 15 I do not understand the things I do. I do not do what I want to do, and I do the things I hate. 16 And if I do not want to do the hated things I do, that means I agree that the law is good. 17 But I am not really the one who is doing these hated things; it is sin living in me that does them. 18 Yes, I know that nothing good lives in me—I mean nothing good lives in the part of me that is earthly and sinful. I want to do the things that are good, but I do not do them. 19 I do not do the good things I want to do, but I do the bad things I do not want to do. 20 So if I do things I do not want to do, then I am not the one doing them. It is sin living in me that does those things.

21 So I have learned this rule: When I want to do good, evil is there with me. 22 In my mind, I am happy with God’s law. 23 But I see another law working in my body, which makes war against the law that my mind accepts. That other law working in my body is the law of sin, and it makes me its prisoner. 24 What a miserable man I am! Who will save me from this body that brings me death? 25 I thank God for saving me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So in my mind I am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful self I am a slave to the law of sin.”

This week I will try to learn to let the Spirit rule me and not my heart.

The Noble Heart Article

I ran across this article tonight and wanted to keep it here so I can read it often.

Pursue God and our heart

  • This is not a one way, one thing or one time process. It will be through retreats, time alone with God, worship, being in the company and counsel of others, books, movies, personal ministry times and so much more. Seek them all. The first answer to every question should be, “Come to Me”. Matt. 11:28

Pray toward the revelation God has give us

  • It so easy to simply think and dream about what we desire, but not ask. We need to continually ask and listen. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Desires of your heart, literally means “that which the deepest, truest part of you continually seeks or prays for.”
  • For the sake of conscience, I need to admit to you that I can overlook the first two (intimacy with God and prayer). Leigh is my greatest encourager and example of these.

Prepare for the appointed moments

  • There are two elements of waiting on God. One is not losing hope or heart. The other is actively preparing for that moment. Preparation often involves studying, experimenting, formal training, feedback, reading and being mentored. All of this is life-giving if its in the pursuit and deepening of your heart’s desire.

Participate with God

  • When an opportunity presents itself, whether small and obscure or large and risky, walk into it fully with the presence of God. When God gives us an opportunity, we need to fully invest in it, multiply it as Jesus emphasized in the Parable of the Talents and then more will come.
  • “The master answered, ‘You did well. You are a good and loyal servant. Because you were loyal with small things, I will let you care for much greater things. Come and share my joy with me.’” Matt. 25:21 NCV

Why this mood God and why for so long?

It has been a week and I can’t shake this awful mood I am in. The more I want to study my Bible the worse the mood gets. I am short and irritable and I am not usually this way. I don’t like it. I just want to say no to studding my Bible and say I want my life back.

I KNOW without a shadow of doubt that God will get me though this. It just seems to be taking so long to get rid of this mood.

I have prayed, I have asked over and over again and still here it is. WHY? Am I supposed to learn something though this. Like never give up maybe? Maybe when this is over I can encourage others to not give up? How will I encourage them though when this is so tough, what will I say to them? Oh, just hang in there and stay strong? God’s timing is perfect? He knows what He is doing? Open the Word and let it renew your soul? I have even told some ladies the last one recently. So easy to say it!

Those sure all sound great don’t they. Yet, here I sit in this mood saying all those things to myself and they are not working. This struggle between the powers that be is ruining my week. Can’t they fight this out without me? I already know I want God to win so can’t they just duke it out while I go about my week in peace?

Why this mood God and why for so long? I wish I could tidy this all up for us all with a powerful answer but I don’t have any answers at this point. I just know that I will continue to have this mood until it passes. I know that I won’t say no to studying my Bible, I know that I won’t say no to saying yes to God and I know I won’t give up! I won’t! I won’t! I won’t!

This post is really just for me so that I have this some place where I can come back to remember this information 🙂 If you are encouraged by it that is even better 🙂

Here are a few ideas to help you better recognize God’s activity in your life:

Say What?

• Find a quiet place. Choose a quiet comfortable place where you won’t be interrupted or distracted.

• Invite God to guide you. As you begin to review your day in God’s presence, ask Him to guide and teach you. You may want to pray: God, I want to see You. God, I want to know You. Teach me how to see You and hear You so I can know You better and follow where You lead me.

• Begin with gratitude. Look back on your day–morning, afternoon and evening–and notice all the ways in which you experienced God’s goodness.

• Look for leadings. Now go through your day again–morning, afternoon, and evening. You may want to imagine that Jesus is sitting with you while you watch a video replay of your day. When something you see catches your attention, push the “pause” button. Then ask Jesus for His guidance and insight.

For example:

-Lord, was this a prompting from You?
-Is this how You wanted me to respond in this situation or to this person?
-Is there anything You want me to do differently next time?

Allow yourself a few moments to listen for the Lord’s response.

So, what happens when you DO say YES to God?

Amazing things being to happen! My whole way of thinking changed, my heart changed, my thoughts changed and when all those things started to happen life become something totally different for me. My path has taken on a whole new direction. This is a path that I have been wanting to take for years now but just didn’t know how to get on it.

There are still trials but they don’t seem like hard trials any more. In saying YES to God there is a peace that I can’t even begin to explain. I just know that everything will be ok in the end. If I can remember to say YES to Him when in the midst of a trial then I know I can make it through. To be able to remember to say YES to Him during a trial I need to stay focused on Him DAILYThis means taking time out of every day to read the Word and to talk with HIm. To let Him know that I am interested in a relationship with Him. There is a “not so good feeling” when someone calls you there good friend but never spends time or chats with you. Have you ever felt that feeling? I sure have and I don’t want God feeling that coming from me.

If you want to say YES to God I highly suggest getting your hands on this book, What Happens When Women Say Yes to God by Lisa Terkeurst. If you want to start right away and not wait for it to be mailed to you then get the Kindle version here. As much as I like the book so I can mark it all up I couldn’t wait for it to be mailed to me so I got the Kindle version and I am so glad I didn’t wait another minute.

Start saying YES today and watch your life change right before your very eyes!
